Not every wildlife experience needs to follow the same script

Some people arrive in La Fortuna hoping to see a sloth.

Others want to identify birds at dawn, photograph a frog at night, record the calls of the rainforest, search for fungi growing from an insect, understand what lives beneath a fallen tree, photograph the stars above Arenal or spend twenty minutes watching behavior that most groups would have already walked past.

Those are very different ways of experiencing a landscape.

Our expeditions are built accordingly.

Why private?

Wildlife does not perform on schedule.

Sometimes an animal disappears in seconds.

Sometimes the most interesting observation develops slowly.

A private expedition gives us the freedom to respond to what is actually happening.

We can wait.

Change direction.

Spend more time on photography.

Investigate something unexpected.

Adapt explanations to a beginner or move directly into more advanced natural history with an experienced observer.

There is no unrelated group whose itinerary we need to satisfy.

Your party and the conditions in the field determine the experience.

 

Why the site can change

Different habitats produce different observations.

Recent rainfall can transform amphibian or fungal activity.

Fruit and flowering alter bird movements.

Weather affects visibility.

Some trails are better for photography.

Others are better for particular ecological questions.

For that reason, many expeditions are not permanently tied to a single reserve.

The location is selected according to the objective of the experience, current conditions, accessibility and your interests.

Standard entrance fees to the selected site are already included in the listed private price.

 

Wildlife without staging

Wild animals are not props.

We do not handle, restrain, bait or reposition animals simply to manufacture an encounter or photograph.

We do not guarantee individual species.

And we do not turn uncertainty into confident identification simply because a name sounds better than “we don't know yet.”

Observation comes first.

Animal welfare comes before the photograph.

Scientific uncertainty is treated honestly.

 

Who these expeditions are for

You do not need to be a biologist, photographer or experienced naturalist.

Curiosity is enough.

At the same time, these experiences are designed to remain useful for people who already know the subject.

A first-time birder may need help finding a bird through binoculars.

An experienced birder may arrive with target species and an eBird list.

Someone with a phone may want to improve wildlife photography.

Another guest may arrive with dedicated macro equipment, flashes and years of experience.

The level changes.

The attention does not.

What happened in this landscape before we arrived?

And what can this one observation teach us about everything around it?

That is what these expeditions are built to explore.
